PhilPlay offered 22nd workshop on Basic Play Therapy 1

PhilPlay offered the 22nd workshop to a group 15 participants last June 13 to 15, 2019 at the Aerie of the University Dormitory of the Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City.

Dr. Honey Carandang was on board to give the participants an introduction to the principles of child-directed play therapy. Dr. Washington Garcia, Ms. Marisa Marin, Ms. Uzi de Leon, and Tito Tom Batalla completed the roster of therapists who joined the participants to have fun, learn the modalities of play therapy, and how to inculcate the practice into their lives.

10th year anniversary: 2nd stop in Bacolod City

We continue our 10th year celebration with a seminar-workshop in Bacolod City last April 26 & 27!

The talk was followed by a consultative workshop for the staff, both of which were conducted at the Kalipay office in Bacolod City. The following day, a movement therapy session for children ages 9-12 y/o was held at the Recovered Treasures Home, a center run by the foundation in Bago City.

Madamu nga salamat to Kalipay Negrense Foundation for their warm welcome and support! Special thanks goes to Ms. Chabeli Cosculluela, resident psychologist of the center, who arranged for and made all of these possible.

Mapaglarong Buhay: a talk by PhilPlay president

We kicked off our 10th year with a talk given at the 14th POPMH Batangas Annual Provincial Convention with the theme “Understanding Psychotherapy: Discovering Strengths Beyond the Blues” last March 9 at Batangas Sate University in Batangas City.

What happens when life toys with us, plays cruel tricks on us? How do children–the most vulnerable members of our society–cope when disaster strikes, when they experience trauma, loss, neglect, abuse of different kinds, bullying?

In “Mapaglarong Buhay: The Importance of Play to Children’s Mental Health & Emotional Well-Being,” Dr. Wash Garcia talked about play as the children’s most natural way of making sense of the world and adjusting to problems or difficulties they encounter. He discussed how colleagues in the helping profession can utilize play therapy to help children improve their coping skills and enhance their resiliency.

Our thanks to the Phil Mental Health Association Lipa-Batangas Chapter (PMHA), the Psychological Organization for the Promotion of Mental Health (POPMH) and their 12 Batangas university partners for their interest and warm welcome. Mabuhay po kayong lahat!!! 🤗
